Travel reporter, Catriona Rowntree is one of Australia’s most well-loved television personalities. She’s best-known for her long-time role on Getaway, but in recent years she’s embraced a new identity as a Victorian famer’s wife, a mum of 2 boys and a designer of baby and maternity clothes.

While Catriona hails from Sydney’s prosperous North Shore, her school years weren’t particularly easy. She was often in trouble for talking too much and Catriona learned from an early age that you need to be careful which voices you listen to. While many discouraged her from pursuing a career in television, saying she wasn’t’ smart enough’ or ‘pretty enough’, her grandmother’s belief in her was always unwavering.

Looking back, Catriona realised that it was her relationship with her grandmother that guided her choices and provided an enduring source of strength in tough times. Her book A Grandmother’s Wisdom, Lessons Learnt at my Nan’s Knee is a tribute to the woman who was always there for her.

It wasn’t until after her Nan passed away, that Catriona realised the power of her Nan’s legacy. She summed it up with these simple words: “Choose kindness, always.”
