“For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child Himself.” ~ Charles Dickens
Key Points:
- If there was ever a quintessential Christmas read, I highly recommend this heartwarming and tear-jerking tale.
- This book sent tears to my eyes too many times to count.
- I give A Christmas Carol 5 stars out of 5!
For me, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without the scorching summer sun, spending countless hours in the pool with family and eating copious amounts of cold meat topped with cranberry sauce while drinking mum’s delicious fruit punch.
However, Christmas was very different in Victorian England, the frosty snow and gloomy weather complimented the cold-hearted miser A Christmas Carol is centred around.
Determined to dampen the lives of everyone around him, Ebenezer Scrooge is blind to the goodness of the world and detests the holiday season.
This book sent tears to my eyes too many times to count.
His only motive is greed.
His want for money and the resulting solitude makes him just as icy as a London Christmas.
However, on the night of Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts: the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
They project to him events of his childhood and early adulthood, as well as the present situation of one of his workers Bob Cratchit – and finally, Scrooge’s own impending, lonely death.
Christmas is a time of great hope and love, it is the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ and is the most beautiful time of year.
It is a reminder that God sent His Son to this earth to allow for peace, hope, and love to reign for all eternity.
It is with this power that Scrooge is transformed and comes to finally realise that Christmas is more importantly about family and love.
He awakes on Christmas morning as a benevolent and loving soul through the Christmas spirit and its core purpose.
This book sent tears to my eyes too many times to count.
If there was ever a quintessential Christmas read, I highly recommend this heartwarming and tear-jerking tale.
It’s beautiful message reminds me of this passage from Isaiah 9:6, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
This verse serves as a reminder of the true meaning and purpose of Christmas, and when Scrooge found this truth, it dramatically affected him for the better and turned his life around.
If there was ever a quintessential Christmas read to prepare yourself for the remarkable holiday and all it is about, I highly encourage you to read this heartwarming and tear-jerking tale.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a happy reading!
I give A Christmas Carol 5 stars out of 5!
