The Hope Book Club looks at sex and relationships from very different angles. In this episode, Katrina Roe and Natasha Moore discuss:
- The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
- On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan
- Out of the Cages by Penny Jaye
The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty looks at secrets in marriage after a woman discovers a letter that was only to be opened in the event of her husband’s death. This novel features Moriarty’s trademark humour and a deft hand at portraying the darker side of ordinary suburban life.
On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan has just been made into a movie starring Saoirse Ronan. It follows two newlyweds in the 1960s who feel very differently about their impending wedding night.
Out of the Cages, by Penny Jaye is a gritty young adult novel about two small girls who are trafficked into India to work in the sex industry. It’s a hopeful story of healing and recovery that is confronting but never gratuitous.
