Most people in Australia believe that God exists. If a survey was to be taken,I think you’d find that the vast majority of people would say “Yes,I believe God exists”. Everywhere you go in the world you’d find the same response. But here’s a question for you today. How do we know He exists? How would you answer this question? Did you grow up believing in God or do you need convincing? Maybe you’re not sure, but would like to think about more.  The French philosopher and sceptic Voltaire once said “If there were no God,it would be necessary for man to invent one”.

Is God wishful thinking or reality? No-one has seen God and yet the Bible makes a profound statement about His reality. Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. These words are the most important words in Scripture… it lays the basis for all that follows. Before anything else was,God is.

But how can we prove God? Can we use reason or logic? Psalm 19:1 “How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory. How plainly it shows what He has done”. In Romans 1:20 it says “Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen. They are perceived in the things that God has made”. Many scientists believe in a supernatural creator,an eternal and powerful God who created the universe. Everything works in harmony, and there are universal laws. The world turns,we have night and day. The earth orbits the sun,and we have seasons.

The truth is that God has His fingerprints all over the universe. The heavens declare the glory of God. If we are open minded, there is much in science to give evidence that there is a creator God. Also, the Bible says “Find out for yourself how good the Lord is” (Psalm 34:8). No matter how much this is explained, some people will refuse to believe in God. God is invisible and therefore unseen. You can’t see an atom, but atoms certainly have an effect. Ask any survivor of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. You can’t see love, but love certainly has an effect… ask someone who is in love. Others deny there is a God because it makes them feel better about themselves. No God,no accountability. If He doesn’t exist, then there is no God to whom we must answer. But there is evidence in reason, logic, and creation, for the existence of God. But there’s something else. God is the Master Designer and giver of life.

Many people have a personal knowledge of God,or personal experience of God. By experiencing Him for ourselves,we know for sure that He does exist. This personal encounter with the God of the universe has its basis in faith. Faith is the key that unlocks the door. In Hebrews 11:6 we read “For he who comes to God must believe that He is,and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him”. To experience God we must act on the inner knowledge that He exists. It’s about opening your heart to a loving God,and believing in Him. This is not a fairy story to make you feel good. It’s about inviting God into your life by faith. The amazing thing is that as you do this,He will personally come to you and you will sense His closeness. You need to check God out for yourself. As you open your heart to Him,He comes close and enters your life.

Millions of people worldwide will testify that they have found a living God who makes a difference in their lives. For without God,life really has no meaning. He offers the keys to eternal life, plus life on earth becomes meaningful with a purpose. The life here is not all there is.

The existence of God can be proven, and it means we need to respond somehow. This God has a plan for your life, and He wants you to turn to Him.
