What’s the part of God’s Word that Sydney Catholic Archbishop Anthony Fisher returns to for the true meaning of Christmas?
Archbishop Fisher spoke to Hope Afternoons about how Christmas 2021 will be celebrated and what sorts of support are being offered by Catholic communities.
When it comes to the enduring significance of Jesus, he swiftly went to a famous part of the Bible.
“One that I particularly love, but especially at this time of year, is ‘God so love the world that he gave his one and only Son,'” Archbishop Fisher said.
Quoting the start of John 3:16 as a go-to truth, Sydney’s Catholic Archbishop said it heralds how Christmas is like a “love letter from God to us”.
“God is so smitten with us that he will give everything to us, even his own Son,” he said.
“And that he wanted so much to be close to us, that he become one of us.”
