In ‘Theology in the Margins’, Mark Earngey (Head of Church History) explores how the notes and drawings in the margins of personal Bibles of the English Reformers can encourage us today.

Archbishop Thomas Cranmer’s Advent prayer asks God to help us “read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” the Scriptures.

While reading and learning are familiar, what about physically marking God’s Word?

This lecture examines how and why Reformers engaged with their Bibles and what modern readers can learn from them, drawing insights from sixteenth-century practices to help us grow in understanding and applying God’s Word in our lives today.
