“In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” ~ Jane Austen (Mr Darcy)
Key Points:
- The novel is practically dripping in the Regency period charm and utterly romantic characters.
- We as readers can observe Christ’s word in the example of finding the very best in people.
- Fun Fact! Did you know that Pride and Prejudice was initially entitled First Impressions?
- I give Pride and Prejudice 4.5 stars out of 5!
How exciting! A new, extremely wealthy neighbour has just moved into town and the Bennet family (in particular the hilarious Mrs Bennet) is absolutely ecstatic.
I am sure you have heard of this book in one way or another due to it being potentially, one of the most famous and renowned classic novels in history.
What is not to love? The novel is practically dripping in the Regency period charm and utterly romantic characters. It is a beautiful, albeit slightly lengthy masterpiece in every single way.
Though this book is not gripping in the sense that it was so intriguing I could hardly tear my eyes away from it, it was riveting in its own right.
Immediately, from the very first sentence, I was drawn to this world so much so that I felt as if I might sink within the pages and join Elizabeth Bennet and her many sisters in their society.

When they laughed, I joined in, when they were upset or distressed, I worried with them.

I have found that Pride and Prejudice is one of those rare books that is so in touch with human emotions, it deceives you into thinking you might, someday, be able to clamber into their world.
It was heartwarming and cozy from the very first chapter to the very last and has proven to have captured the place as one of my favourite classic novels.
I came to realise as I was reading this fabulous book, that we as readers can observe Christ’s word in the example of finding the very best in people.
At the very beginning of the novel, when Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are first introduced to one another, Elizabeth cannot look past Darcy’s pride and selfishness, and Darcy cannot look past her stubbornness.
We as readers can observe Christ’s word in the example of finding the very best in people.
Without the power of second chances and looking past first encounters, the two might have never come to terms with their feelings for one another.
It can teach us that although first impressions are important forgiveness and giving others a second chance allows us to become reintroduced to people we may have judged wrongly in the past.
As I think of this, I am reminded of the verse from Job 33: 29 – 30 “God does all these things to a person – twice, even three times – to turn them back from the pit, that the light of life may shine on them.”
This verse relates to Pride and Prejudice because it shows us that God gives us an infinite number of chances.
He is there for us through any situation and is always willing to forgive much like how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth looked past their initial prejudices of one another, forgave, and recognised their growing love towards one another.

This book means a great deal to me and I hope you found joy, as I have, reading this beautiful classic masterpiece. Happy reading!

The young Jane Austen tried to publish her book in 1797 but the name was changed to avoid confusion with other works at the time which had the same title.
I give Pride and Prejudice 4.5 stars out of five!
