Church Event: Remembering “Mr Eternity” Arthur Stace – Merrylands West

If you are old enough, you probably saw Arthur’s handiwork. From the 1930s to the 1960s, someone wrote a single-word message in yellow crayon on the footpaths of Sydney. The word Eternity.

For decades, Sydneysiders wondered who was placing these messages. It was the work of one man, a former alcoholic by the name of Arthur Stace.

Arthur Stace died on Sunday 30 July 1967. Exactly 50 years later, you are invited to our “Eternity Festival” to hear about his remarkable life – The true story of a Sydney legend – and the message of hope he so wanted to share.

Theology Event: Not in Kansas Anymore Symposium – Macquarie Park

What is the role of the church in a strange new world, an increasingly post-Christian west? Are we to lean in to culture and insist on our right to act as chaplains to a fading Christendom, or should we withdraw and exercise the ‘Benedict option’?

Drawing on a variety of voices, the symposium will provide opportunities for us to reflect biblically and creatively on the place of the church in a context where God’s people feel increasingly marginalised and overlooked.

Speakers include Morling College Faculty, Stephen McAlpine, Kate Brennan Harrison, Matt Anslow, Brooke Prentis, Ian Robinson and Dave Benson.

Church Event: The Psalms in the Christian life – Naremburn

The Rev Dr Andrew Shead, head of Moore College’s Old Testament Department, will be leading us on a journey through Psalms.

No book feels more personal than the Psalms, whose 150 songs give us unique words with which to express our joys and our sorrows before God. No book is more theologically rich than the Psalms, which Martin Luther called “a Little Bible, wherein everything contained in the entire Bible is beautifully and briefly comprehended”.

This evening is to deepen our appreciation of the Psalms – as poetry, as a book, as a part of Christian Scripture – to deepen our experience of the Psalms as a crucial resource for Christian living.
